CHANGING THE PERSPECTIVE

CHANGING THE PERSPECTIVE: 15- year-old Kiveth

17 November 2021

So, I’m going to tell a little bit about my experience moving from a rural area to an urbanized area, the perspective I have now as a teenager and what I remember from those times when I was 5 years old.

As I said when I was 5 years old my family and I, had to leave the small town where we lived because we started having economic problems, besides, the situation in that area was very dangerous, the conflict was displacing many families from the area, so we decided to leave the town, my family didn’t think much about it, because, our lives could have been in danger if we were in the middle of any of the armed conflicts. My grandparents, my aunts, uncles cousins next to my parents and I decided to walk a long time along the path full of stones, I remember well that because after a while my feet began to hurt a lot, after a long time, we managed to finish our way in a bus, and that’s when we got to town. Surely you think that because I was very young, I couldn’t give you a perspective or a clear idea of what this experience was, but there are memories that I have very clear and that I can tell you precisely and I can also tell you the stories and memories that my family have about this experience.

After arriving to the city, we had some problems, some of them I knew it recently because I decided to talk about that with my grandfather. My parents didn’t complete their studies so they had a hard time finding a decent job that we could afford with, the first few months it was very difficult to even have money to eat, my parents and my uncles and aunts had to work day and night to get some money, we found a place where we could stay and managed to pay the rent because my parents had some savings, with my cousins we were not studying because we were just mating to the new environment, so we helped a lot in what we could, I remember that sometimes I missed being in the middle of nature, I missed my friends and for my parents sometimes it was so complicated that they thought about giving up, that’s what my grandfather told me, After a lot of work my parents managed to raise enough money to get me in a school and be able to buy my notebooks and uniform, I have been always an excellent student.

Coming to the city complicated our lifestyle a little, it’s much more competitive than in a rural area, it’s very complicated for people like my parents who couldn’t finish their studies and also  the air is very heavy sometimes, however, thanks to this, I am now receiving an excellent education, which will surely help me a lot in the future, it is easier to access to health here in the city in the town when we were sick we had to look for home ways to heal.

I finally think coming to town was a good thing, because I want to be a doctor someday and I like studying, you find lots of opportunities in the city, opportunities you don’t find in a small town, of course it’s hard sometimes to cope with complications, however, it is not impossible someday I will remember it as an experience that helped me to grow as a person.
